Kevin was born in Sloan, Iowa in his family home on August 28, 1949 to Donald and Blanche (Hickmon) Clayton. He attended elementary school in Hornick, Iowa and attended Westwood High School in Sloan, Iowa.
On April 24, 1971, he married Cathy Cole from Salix, Iowa. Together, they were blessed with three children: Melody, Glori, and Andy Clayton. Kevin took immense pride in his thirteen grandchildren and delighted in the arrival of five great-grandchildren.
His father Don passed away when Kevin was ten years old and his mother Blanche later remarried in 1972 to Roger Jenkins from Sloan, Iowa. Kevin was fortunate to grow up surrounded by six siblings, many aunts, uncles and cousins sharing a childhood full of memories and mischief.
Throughout his career, Kevin worked in various trades, from IBP, to owning the Fina gas station in Salix, to being a supervisor for American Industrial Refrigeration out of Atwater, Minnesota. He and Cathy traveled throughout the United States living in temporary locations for his work, as they neared retirement. They cherish those times together, from Maine to California.
Kevin was committed to serving his community, serving as a volunteer fire fighter for the Salix fire department and as a councilmember of the Salix town Council. In his younger years, he was a regular donor to the Siouxland blood bank and received many transfusions during his illness.
Kevin enjoyed time with his family and friends. Throughout his life he hunted, fished, played softball, and processed meat alongside his brothers and other family members. He enjoyed the outdoors whether it was on his morning drives, his fishing boat or in recent years getting out on his golf cart. He attended church at Sloan Community Church of Christ, where his mother and many other family members attend, as well.
Kevin will be remembered for his steady strength, generous heart, unwavering work ethic, and love for his family. His legacy lives on in the life he built, the community he served, and the family he cherished.
Kevin is survived by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Cathy Clayton of Salix, Iowa; his children, Melody (Scott) Oskins of Huntsville, Alabama, Glori (Matt) Hall of Whiting, Iowa, and Andy (Sarah) Clayton of Salix, Iowa; and his cherished grandchildren, Hannah (Zach) Greder, Jacob (Mykenzie) Hall, Emma (Jaxon) Lutt, Sarah Hall, Mia Oskins, Ella Oskins, Ian Oskins, Sadie Oskins, Ashley Clayton, Blake Clayton, Anna Clayton, Levi Oskins, and Lucas Clayton. He is further survived by his siblings, Donna Zetlau, Donald Clayton, Roxann Hyden, and Janelle (Steve) Hubert.
He is preceded in death by his father, Donald Clayton; mother, Blanche (Roger) Jenkins; and two brothers, Dennis Clayton and Greg Clayton.
